Company history

ServiceMaster Disaster Restoration Services was founded in 1974 by Jim Cyganiak. When the company began it was run out of the basement of Jim’s home with only the assistance of his wife, Bonnie and three sons, Jim, Dave and Mark. It wasn't until almost four years later in 1978 that Jim began to hire additional help. Throughout the 1980’s, the franchise began to expand, and in 1984 Jim purchased additional territory in West Allis – Wauwatosa – New Berlin. By this time the company size had grown significantly and was now fully staffed with crew members, equipment and multiple vehicles. In 1986, they relocated to more accommodating facilities in the Greendale Industrial Park.

Jim and Bonnie’s franchise also provided a rather exclusive service in the industry… the interior cleaning of aircrafts. This service initiated after years of weekly cleaning for Miller Brewing Company, and expanded rapidly for many years. Jim has cleaned the aircraft interior for legendary musical groups like Boston, Chicago, and Fleetwood Mac, as well as planes for Philip Morris, Briggs & Stratton and Congoleum. It was also around this time that the franchise began to play a much more active role in local disaster restoration.

In 1991, Jim’s youngest son, Mark, began assisting the franchise. Mark Cyganiak served as a crew member for almost four years before assuming management responsibilities. Under Mark’s second-generation guidance, ServiceMaster Disaster Restoration now operates 10 franchises. It is the largest ServiceMaster in the state of Wisconsin, and among the largest in the nation. We are now based out of New Berlin, Wisconsin within 24,000 square feet of facilities, and recently opened a full-service office in Manitowoc, as well. Our staff has grown to 50+ employees, we have a fleet of 30+ emergency response vehicles.

As a Quality Restoration Provider, our services are delivered with state-of-the-art equipment and thoroughly trained, insured, bonded, and licensed staff. We coordinate cleaning and restoration services all over Wisconsin. We continue to work with multiple ServiceMaster locations as part of a “Nationwide Catastrophe Team”. Most recently, we have been involved in assisting hundreds of homeowners through such disasters as Hurricane Katrina and the California Wildfires, in addition to helping thousands of Wisconsin homeowners and businesses survive the unparalleled winter events of 2007-2008.
